BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified form of botulism. When it is injected into the muscles, rather than causing botulism, it temporarily weakens them. This decreases fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the eyes and on the forehead. The advances in the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic include facial contouring, gentle eyebrow lifts, and treatment of excess sweating.

Who Does the Treatment?
Dr. Polo does all the injections. She has over 15 years of experience in the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic, both medically and cosmetically.

Does It Hurt?
Only a tiny needle is used, and most people are pleasantly surprised. If you choose, however, an anesthetic can be applied to your skin prior to your treatment. This causes no change in the effectiveness of your treatment.

How Long Does It Last?
The average person notices benefits for at least three months. It may even last as long as six months, depending on how your body reacts to the treatment. As you continue to use BOTOX® Cosmetic, the longer the benefits will last without additional treatments.

Are There Any Risks?
BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used over 20 years now. There are very few side effects. The only potential side effect could be temporary bruising, which only occurs in less than 5% of treated patients. This can easily be treated with a small touch up treatment. You can usually go right back to work, the area treated might have the look of having been pinched.

How Much Does It Cost?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is stable for up to 24 hours after mixing. The dosage is described in units. A typical dose is 8 units per area treated (such as between the eyebrows). Our price is $15 per unit, with most patients using 8-20 units.
